The opening is loud, crude, and transitions rather clumsily into the floral notes. Once it finally settles on the skin, it isn't terrible—but it falls way short of the original's seamless elegance. If Tom Ford's Noir de Noir is a masterclass in classic black-and-white cinema, Essence de Noir feels like a needlessly over-stylized, budget-bin remake.
